To become a licensed tattoo artist in Minnesota, the State requires 200 hours of actual pigment implementation into skin (tattooing), under a licensed supervisor. Our apprenticeship program fulfills all of the State's requirements.

An apprentice is a student who has already completed their training and received their certification, either with us or with another school, and is working toward their full licensure. An apprenticeship is the opportunity to put that training into practice on live models. Each apprentice is given a licensed Supervisor who can assist in helping them perfect the skills they have been trained on.

MN Academy Graduates

200 Hours Apprenticeship for Academy Graduates - $5750
200 Hours Assisted Apprenticeship Program for Graduates -$9500
100 Hours Apprenticeship -$3750
50 Hours Apprenticeship -$2000

***Assisted Apprenticeship: This program helps students develop and execute marketing plans such as: social media set up, up to 3 months social media postings, marketing budget for advertising, and guarantees models/clients during the apprenticeship term. Throughout the apprenticeship term, the Academy will book 200 hours of client services on your behalf. For more details or information, please contact our Academy Coordinator.

General Apprenticeship Detail

Apprenticeship Supervision: Apprentice will be assigned an on-site licensed and certified supervisor(s) during the apprenticeship term.
Supplies Provided: Basic tattoo bed and 'dry goods' supplies.
Contract Term:
- 200 hours: Up to 8 months/8 hours per day/2 days per week
- Shorter term for short contracts (100 hours, 50 hours)

Paid Apprenticeship Program: Students can earn service commission (30%-50%) during the apprenticeship term.
Clients/Models: It is the responsibility of the apprentice to provide clients/ models during the apprenticeship term. The Academy provides marketing/advertising to provide models/clients for the apprentice at the student service prices established by the Academy. However, we do not guarantee models/clients. Check out the Assisted Apprenticeship option if you prefer guaranteed models/clients.

Other Institute Graduates

We welcome students from other Body Art institutions to apprentice with us. We offer 2 programs for Non-Academy Graduates (students from other institutions):

200 Hours Apprenticeship for Non-Academy Graduates -$6500

200 Hours Assisted Apprenticeship Program for Non- Academy Graduates -$10500

General Non-Graduate Apprenticeship Detail

Apprenticeship Supervision: Apprentice will be assigned an on-site licensed and certified supervisor(s) during the apprenticeship term.
To ensure the success of the apprenticeship, we provide students from other schools with 4 hours of one-on-one with a supervisor/instructor. We will assess our past training skills and aptitude. We will provide additional training, as needed, for blood borne pathogens, treatment set up, mapping, etc.
Supplies Provided: Basic tattoo bed and 'dry goods' supplies
Paid Apprenticeship Program: Students can earn service commission (30%-50%) during the apprenticeship term.
Clients/Models: It is the responsibility of the apprentice to provide clients/ models during the apprenticeship term. The Academy provides marketing/advertising to provide models/clients for the apprentice at the student service prices established by the Academy. However, we do not guarantee models/clients. Check out the Assisted Apprenticeship option if you prefer guaranteed models/clients.

Terms & Conditions

Registration:

Applicants are required to pay a non-refundable deposit of $2,000 to reserve a space for this course. The remaining balance will need to be paid in full or by contract payment. The non-refundable deposit will apply toward the total cost of the apprenticeship program.

After the registration process, the Academy will review your application for approval including: our availability and your past training certifications. If the applicant is approved, we will send out the information to begin the apprenticeship program. If your application is not approved, we will refund 100% of the deposit to you within 7 business days.

Cancellation:

To ensure that students are serious about enrolling in our apprenticeship programs, we do not offer refunds once a student has already registered and been approved by the Academy. There will be no exceptions for refunds once the student has registered and been approved for the apprenticeship.

Licensing:

*Temporary Body Art license must be registered at least 30 days in advance of the apprenticeship program start date to ensure processing time by the state of Minnesota prior to any live model/client service work. Application fee for the temporary license is not included in the above apprenticeship program fees.

* All hands-on live skin procedures require a Body Art license of either: temporary license, guest artist license, Body Art license or other Health Department approved license.

We require all students to complete a bloodborne pathogens certification before beginning the apprenticeship program.

*For students attending from outside the state of Minnesota- please check out your state's health department website for information specific to your state's Department of Health requirements.

*Students are responsible for checking with his/her state Health Department or local jurisdiction for his/her license requirement process.

Apprentice Proficiency:

Apprentices must be proficient in English. To be proficient means that a student is capable of clearly speaking, listening, and able to write in English. Also, the apprentice is required to perform tasks independently. Apprentices need to comprehend textbooks, theoretical and practical instruction, and to communicate with supervisor(s) and models/clients while in the classroom and practice room facilities.
